Neurology
Diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. Diseases within this group fall under the expertise of a neurologist.
Symptoms and main conditions
The most common symptoms of neurological disorders are sleep disturbances, headaches associated with weather changes, dizziness, tinnitus, acute neck or back pain. Severe neurological symptoms include the onset of asymmetric weakness in the limbs (paralysis, paresis), speech disorders, asymmetry of the pupils, confusion, or loss of consciousness. When the first signs of a disorder appear, it is advisable to consult a neurologist.
The main diseases in neurology include disorders of the central nervous system (strokes), peripheral nervous system (neuritis, radiculopathy, previously known as “radiculitis”), epilepsy, speech disorders, gait disturbances, sluggishness, or sudden changes in behavior.
What does a neurologist do:
- Consults and examines the patient
- Refers for specialized examinations (including MRI, CT scans, ultrasound, EEG, electromyography)
- Interprets their results and identifies pathology
- Administers treatment aimed at alleviating symptoms and restoring normal functioning of the nervous system
